THE EXONERATED

"Steel wire fencing, crowned with barbed wire, separates the audience from the action happening on stage. [ ] Jessica Staton's masterful stage design effectively creates distance."

The Play's The Thing

"Jessica Staton has created an incredible traverse stage setting with the audience on either side of the action. The actors are encased [ ] by a huge wire fence [ ] making the audience members feel like they're part of the jury [ ]."

Taken from interviews, letters, transcripts, case files and the public record, 'The Exonerated' tells the true stories of six wrongfully convicted survivors of death row in their own words.

Moving between filmed first person monologues and live flashbacks, including courtrooms, prisons and bars, the six interwoven stories paint a picture of an American justice system gone horribly wrong. This is the story of six people who persevered to survive it.
