AND PUPPETEER

As you follow Flotsam, the assistant curator, around the museum you witness the exhibits slowly coming to life, culminating in the appearance of the Aztec Sea Goddess and a maelstrom of underwater creatures.

The Aztec Sea Goddess wore a 9m diameter painted  habotai silk skirt with an ornately decorated bodice and headdress. After she had transformed the Sea Goddess flew up as her skirt was manipulated by puppeteers. Slits in the skirt allowed lantern sea creatures, such as turtles and a squid and an angler fish, to appear.

Co-designed with Megumi Okazaki, James Horne and Hongkyu Kim.

Bodice made by me, ebellished with James Horne and Hogkyu Kim.

Skirt made and painted by me.

Headdress made by Megumi Okazaki.
